Meditation for Mind/Body Wellbeing
Meditation is deeply linked with yoga, as a vehicle for the union of mind, body and spirit. Meditation is recognized in mainstream medicine as a proven antidote to stress, with benefits for the heart, digestion, and restful sleep. There are many forms of meditation that can be easily incorporated into one’s life. Teacher Jon Kabat-Zinn said it best: “many doors, one room”. This class provides a chance to learn about meditation in theory and in practice. Each class will be unique and include some instruction and practice of various types of meditation—including mantra meditation, mindfulness breathing, mindful body scan, lovingkindness meditation and guided visualization. Classes will include time for questions and discussion.
Yin | ||
This class is appropriate for all levels and abilities. Yin Yoga emphasizes passive, static, low to the ground postures, held for long periods of time (3 to 5 minutes), with muscles in a relaxed state the entire class. This way, the dense connective tissues in and around the muscles and joints are stimulated, somewhat stretched, rehydrated, and ultimately strengthened. All in all, the mobility of your connective tissues are enhanced. Use of props is highly encouraged. Yin Yoga is meant to complement and supplement your usual more active, standing, and dynamic postural sequences.
Healthy Joints, Vital Core and Vibrant SpineThis class will focus on practices that complement classical physical yoga practices. We will use the principle of directed awareness and movement to overcome stagnation and facilitate renewal to promote mobility in the joints, vitality in the core/abdomen, and vibrancy in the spine. All 3 are important for overall well-being. When done regularly, these practices promote the free flow of energy and the release of tension in the body and mind. Classes will also include breath work, Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation),and meditative practices of body steadiness, Suitable for all regardless of fitness level, health conditions, or age. Teacher will provide modifications for your unique needs. |
